    4th of July Parade!

NVGS & Napa Model A's Team Up Again This Year

NVGS will roll in Napa's July 4th Parade for the second time! Once again, Napa Model A's club members have offered to escort us on the mile-long parade route in their antique cars decorated for the occasion.

    How YOU Can Participate

    • Walk: Get your steps in and walk the parade route with us. We need two people to carry the NVGS banner in front of the cars, and a few more people to relieve them. Bring the kids, bring the grandkids — the more the merrier!
    • Ride: A few seats will be available in the antique cars. Be sure to practice your wave! Preference will be given on site to those with mobility challenges.
    • Make some noise: If you can't walk or ride with us, find a shady spot and cheer us on from the sidelines!

Members, please RSVP to walk or ride with us:

Please join us for this fun celebration, help us boost public awareness of NVGS, and hang out with old friends while making some new ones.

Note: Parade participants will need to arrive by 8:30 a.m. on Friday, July 4th at our designated line-up spot. A map and additional instructions will be emailed to participants in advance. The parade starts at 9:30 a.m.

Please remember to bring water, a hat, and sunscreen, and to wear good walking shoes. The parade route is about 1 mile long.

Tax Records — More Exciting Than You Might Think!

    Presented by Annette Burke Lyttle

Tax records can help us locate our ancestors in place and time. They can tie our ancestors to land or confirm for us that an ancestor did not own land. They can help us follow ancestral migrations and separate same-named persons. Sometimes they can help us pinpoint a death date or timeframe. Tax records can act as censuses between the censuses.

The variety of taxes levied by governments at all levels has left a rich record of our ancestors’ lives and their sometimes-changing fortunes!

Annette Burke Lyttle, CG® owns Heritage Detective, LLC, providing professional genealogical services in research, education, and writing. She speaks on a variety of genealogical topics at the international, national, state, and local levels and loves helping people uncover and share their family stories. Annette is a course coordinator for the Salt Lake Institute of Genealogy and the British Institute. She is a published writer whose research interests include Quaker ancestors and ancestral migrations in the US. She is past president of the Association of Professional Genealogists and editor of The Florida Genealogist.
