Anyone may request a free lookup of the following Napa County records (please provide a name and a date of the event):

• Marriage Record Abstracts, 1850 to 1905
• Marriage Index Only to Records, 1850 to 1975
• Birth Record Abstracts, 1873 to 1905
• Death Record Abstracts, 1873 to 1905
• Great Register, 1880 to 1894 & 1908 to 1956
• Tax Assessments, 1884 to 1893
• Obituaries, 1970 through 2003 and 2011 through 2014
• Cemetery Index, 1850 to 2013

Call our library or email your request to Librarian@NapaGenSoc.org. Please type “Look-up Request” in the subject line.

Paper copies: We are happy to mail copies of the above documents, excluding marriage indexes. Copies are $3,  which must be paid in advance. Pay now using our Donate page.

Members: Your membership gives you online access to some of these records for free! Log in

This service is free, but your donation is gratefully appreciated.

We're happy to help you with other research requests of any of the 9,000+ holdings in our Library.

Research Fees: $30 for 1st hour, $15 for each additional hour.

Mail: Send the request form with your check for the initial $30 fee (made payable to NVGS) to: NVGS, 1701 Menlo Avenue, Napa, CA 94558, Attn: Research.

Pay Online: Use our Donate form. If you are able to scan the form and your PayPal receipt, please email them to us to initiate your request: Librarian@NapaGenSoc.org.

A member of our research team will contact you upon receipt of the form and fee, and thereafter as needed to complete your request.

Please note: Payment is required in advance for all requests; research fees are not refundable, even if no record exists. 

For more extensive research projects, please contact us to make arrangements. We can accommodate most requests, but larger projects may be charged at a higher rate.
