Doing Your Research

Our friendly volunteers are available to help you start your ancestor search, explore our holdings, and access online resources.

We are a FamilySearch affiliate library and have access to several paid subscription sites

What to Bring

  • Usernames and passwords: For any websites you'd like to use during your visit. Note that we have access to some subscriptions, but not all. Plus, we've compiled lots of free resources!
  • USB flash drive: To download documents viewed on our patron computers.
  • Your personal device: Use our Wi-Fi to access FamilySearch and our paid subscriptions. Save your work directly to your laptop, tablet, or phone.

Discovering your family history is a rewarding journey. Whether you're a beginner or an advanced researcher, we’re here to help.

Special Equipment

The equipment described below is available during your library visit. A volunteer will show you how to use the equipment and answer your questions.

Please set up an appointment to use this equipment: email Librarian@NapaGenSoc.org.

  • Sheet Feed Scanner: Digitize many photos or documents at once – quick and easy!

  • High-Res Flatbed Scanner: Scans individual (including delicate) photos and other large items. On Wednesdays, ask for training on the scanner from our librarian.

  • ScanPro Microfilm Reader & Scanner: Browse, save, or print anything on the 100+ rolls of microfilm/microfiche in our collection.
You may also use our machine to view, scan or print from your own microfilm/microfiche.
