NVGS Website Privacy Statement

At this website (www.napagensoc.org), the Napa Valley Genealogical Society (the “Society”) has two fundamental principles that it follows when it comes to your privacy:

• We don’t ask for your personal information unless we truly need it;
• We don’t share your personal information with anyone except in accordance with law.

Information we collect

The Napa Valley Genealogical Society is the sole owner of the information collected on this website. The personal data we collect from members and others who visit the website to register for events and send queries is limited to that which is necessary for Society administrative purposes. We retain this personal data for no longer than necessary to fulfill those purposes. We do not collect aggregate data about visitors to this website.

We only have access to personally-identifying information if you voluntarily give it to us. The information we collect:

• The membership application requests your name, email address, mailing address, phone number, and the surnames you are researching.
• Event registrations, donation forms, and research assistance queries request your name, email address, mailing address, and phone number.

What we do and don’t do with the information we collect

We use your personally-identifying information solely for Society administrative purposes, such as maintaining the Society’s membership list, or sending Society members announcements about upcoming events or renewal reminders. We do not and will not sell or rent your information to anyone. We do not and will not share any of your information with anyone except in accordance with law.

Protecting your information

The Society makes reasonable efforts to protect your personal information. The Society maintains an extra layer of website security through our website hosting company, NetworkSolutions. 

Your rights to your information

International privacy law (the General Data Protection Regulation or GDPR) gives you rights over personally-identifying information collected for website purposes, including the right to withdraw any consent previously given, the right to review data that’s been collected, the right to correct or update your data, and the right to have any personally-identifying information erased. Opting out

The Society provides our members with the option to Opt-Out or “unsubscribe” to specific email notifications and to modify their personal privacy settings through their online Profile. After login, click the member name at the top of the screen to view “My Profile.” Click “Edit Profile” to modify Email and Privacy Settings. Note that the membership directory is only viewable by members of the Society, and the Society does not host forums or blogs on this website.

Use of cookies

This website does not use cookies for tracking purposes.
